The entry of Reliance Jio into
the Indian Telecom sector has been disruptive and game-changing. Starting with
the sheer scale of its operations wherein it leveraged its existing network of
stores and outlets to sell new connections to the consumers, to its humungous
size wherein it managed to sign up nearly 200 Million users in less than Two
Years, to its aggressive pricing and deep discounting strategies, and its
flexible and bundled plans where it offers a handset along with a new
connection, the brains behind Reliance Jio, and Mukesh Ambani, in particular,
have left no stone (or rather no mobile tower unturned) in their quest
for dominance and supremacy.
Reliance Jio has come only with 4G service and invested a
lot on its 4G technology while the other telecom companies have to upgrade their
existing 2G and 3G services to 4G. But in the case of Jio, only 4G technology was
there and was introduced in the market at free of cost due to which a good response
was seen. Many of people switched their telecom companies to Jio due to its
free offer. Jio has initially focused only on creating its subscriber base.
Reliance Jio was launched with free unlimited
calling and data usage for 3 months which was extended for another 3 months later as a New year offer.
After April 2017 Jio started charging the customer for their calls and data usage.
Jio also started
offering different products like Jio free dish, Jio Gigafiber, Jio Vowifi, Jio
Giga tv, Jio smartphone, Jio cinema, Jio tv, Jio music which also grabbed the
user attention.
Launch:
In September 2016, Jio has been introduced into the Indian
market. Reliance Jio made a lot of buzz in the telecom sector due to which it
also showed amazing results. According to the reports, In the very first month
after its launch, Reliance Jio has acquired 16 million subscribers which is
highest for any service provider in the world.
The number has increased to 50
million in 3 months and now it
is the second-largest mobile network operator in India and the fourth
largest mobile network operator in the world with over 355.17
million subscribers.

Jio
Gigafiber would be the seamless broadband
experience with ultra-fast upload and download speeds. It has Fiber To The
Home (FTTH) technology in which the fibre cables would be connected directly to
your home without any inferior cables and patches.
Impact of Reliance Jio on other Telecom Companies :
Reliance Jio
offered data plans which were so low that many people switched their existing
network to Jio which cause a lot of unrest to the other operators due to which
they had to make drastic changes in their plans to remain in the competition.
The merger of Idea with Vodafone and Airtel with Telenor are the result of that.
