Leadership

Trait Theory:- The trait man
theory is based
on the great
man, but it
is more systematic
in its analysis
of leaders. Like
the great man
theory, this theory
assumes that the
leader’s personal traits
are the key
to the leadership
success. “ Leaders are born,
not made”. This
approaches on the
personal attributes of
leaders.

Behavioural Theory:- It
is based upon
the belief that
great leaders are
made, not born.
They look at
what the leaders
actually do. Success leadership is
based on definable,
learnable behavioral. This
theories do not
seek inborn traits – they
look at what
leaders actually do. They are
identified three “ leadership
styles ” which are:-
- Autocratic
leadership style
- Democratic
leadership style
- Laissez-faire leadership
style

Autocratic Leadership
Style:- Autocratic leadership style
refers to that
leadership style in
which the leader
tends to run
the show all
by himself. The
authoritarian leader makes
decisions alone as
power is centralized
in one person.
Decisions are enforced using
rewards and the
fear of punishment.
ii.
Democratic Leadership
Style:- Democratic leadership
style refers to
that leadership style
in which the
leader consults with
his subordinates before
making any final
decision. The participative
leader include one or more
employees in the decision-making process.
Communication flows freely;
suggestions are made
in both directions.

Laissez–Faire Leadership Style:-
It is also
known as free – rein
leadership style. Laissez-faire leadership
style refers to
that leadership style
in which the
leader gives his
subordinates complete freedom
to make decisions.
The free – rein leader
gives power to
subordinates to make
decisions. It is
generally not useful.
